Second Annual Networking Breakfast and Recognition Ceremony Celebrates the Efforts of Long Island Employers

Katie Dunn, Employer Services Coordinator, Nassau County, LITM presents Daria Fischer of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System with an award recognizing the organization's membership in the Commuter Choice program.

On September 27th, 2007, Long Island Transportation Management (LITM) sponsored a networking breakfast to celebrate another year of employer-sponsored commute alternatives on Long Island. The event, which was attended by an energized group of about 70 people, took place at the Long Island Hilton Hotel in Melville, and honored Commuter Choice members for their success with ridesharing, mass transit, and other alternatives to single-passenger commute patterns, snarled traffic and poor air quality.

John Dillon, LITM's Regional Manager, presented new Commuter Choice Members with plaques and representatives from LITM's staff discussed various free services offered through LITM.

In addition, Frank Mongioi of Clean Air New York encouraged participants to keep doing their part for clean air. "A few small changes to one's travel routine could make a big difference in air quality for everyone," Mongioi said. "Motor vehicles are one of the largest sources of air pollution in the New York metro area," he added. Mongioi asked attendees to visit www.cleanairny. org to learn about more ways to improve air quality throughout New York.

Is Vanpooling on Long Island's Horizon?
Another speaker, Greg Levitz, talked about the Rideshare Company's Easy Street vanpooling program (www.easystreet.org). Currently operating throughout Connecticut, Easy Street is a commuter van service offered through The Connecticut Department of Transportation. Operated by The Rideshare Company, Easy Street has more than 300 routes with 3,000 riders. The company hopes to partner with LITM to bring Easy Street's vanpool services to Long Island employers.
